Vitamins and Supplements!

I get asked about vitamins and supplements all the time.

If you've ever walked into a vitamin store or looked over the offerings at your local drugstore you’ve probably been overcome and confused. What do these things do? What do I need? Are these products pure? What should I buy?

I started using supplements and vitamins in 1977. But I was no expert so I just took what the guys at the gym were using. Thing is, they weren’t experts either. We just bought what they advertised in the weight training muscle magazines. Little did we know that the magazines were published by the same people who sold the vitamins and supplements. The magazines were basically 150 page advertisements.

But did they work?

That’s the most difficult question to answer about vitamins and supplements. With the exception of the illegal and dangerous drugs used by certain professional baseball, football, and track athletes, it’s hard to see quick and immediate results.

To make the matter more confusing, the FDA does NOT regulate supplements and vitamins. That means that there is no regulatory agency insuring the purity of the product. You don’t know if you’re getting what the package says you’re getting or not. The company could package sugar pills and call them vitamins.

Another key issue has to do with the body’s ability to absorb the vitamin. Some vitamins may have the ingredients they report on the package, but will those vitamins, minerals, and other supplements be absorbed, or will they simply “pass through” your system?

Over the years I’ve been approached by several vitamin, mineral, and supplement companies. As a high school coach and athletic director and as the Commanding Officer of USMC Fitness BOOT CAMP, I’ve been asked by a number of company sales reps to push their products to my athletes and to members of BOOT CAMP.

I’ve never made a recommendation of any company or their products. I was never convinced that the products lived up to their claims. Lots of flash in the pan hype. Little science to back it up.

Today, after testing a company’s products for the past 6 months, I’d like to recommend the Shaklee Company. Let me explain why I can recommend Shaklee without hesitation.

About 6 months ago I was asked by a representative of Shaklee to give their products a try. I was even encouraged to put their company under the microscope. And though I’m a huge skeptic, I ordered the Shaklee Basics and started to research the company. I compared Shaklee product ingredients to the ingredients of similar products offered by other major companies. You would know these companies.

Here’s what I found out:

• The Shaklee Company is over 40 years old. Not a fly by night outfit.

• The company has a respected staff of health science and nutrition science professionals, researchers and developers with terminal degrees (M.D.’s and PhD’s) in their respective fields, published findings, and years of testimonials from average people to Olympic Gold Medal winners.

• The company guarantees the purity of their products and has a quality assurance department that rivals any company regulated by the FDA.

• The products I use are better balanced than those offered at the vitamin stores and drugstores.

• The amount of ingredients in the Shaklee products was higher in 90% of the comparisons I did of similar daily doses in other products.

• The absorption rate of the Shaklee products is guaranteed.

These are just a few of the things I discovered.

I also did a little experiment of my own. I bought similar products from the other major vitamin and mineral companies. My kitchen started looking like a lab! I put a daily dose of each company’s products in glasses of warm water, stirring once every 10 minutes (to simulate the body’s digestion and absorption). The Shaklee products were completely dissolved within 45 minutes. The others took much longer. One nationally known product was still in a semisolid form SIX HOURS later!

How did I feel? I can’t say that I felt like a million dollars, because I ALWAYS feel like a million dollars!! But I DID feel better! One of the things that I noticed almost immediately was that I wasn’t experiencing an afternoon dip in energy. That’s huge for me! I’ll bet for you too.

If you want to give Shaklee a try, go to http://www.shaklee.net/tonyludlow. You can check out their products and order them online. AND you can get a discount for you AND me! You can even get a Shaklee membership which will give you even more of a discount. The company offers a 100% no questions asked money back guarantee.

Here’s what I use:

• Shaklee Basics (an awesome mix of vitamins and minerals)
• Shaklee Joint Health Formula (glucosamine)
• Physique muscle repair and building powder (post workout shake)
• Energizing Soy Protein mix
• Essential Omega-3 Complex

Let me know if you have any questions!

To your continued good health and fitness,

Tony
